What is a Laminate floor? It’s a question we hear all the time, A laminate floor is a layered floor built around a watertight, glued high-density fibre (HDF) board, it’s been around for about 50 years, and it’s designed to add style and value to your home while withstanding wear and tear. Most often, it’s designed to look like wood (but not always). All quick-step laminate floors consist of four different layers:

Layer 1: Wear or overlay layer
The top laminate flooring layer is the wear or overlay layer, it consists of serval melamine layers that are pressed onto the HDF core board in a press, under high pressure and temperature, the surface layer is finished with a wood or tile texture/structure that is called” registered-embossed”, it resistant to stains, wear, impact scratched commonly caused by pet claws, shoes, kids toys, furniture legs, vacuum cleaners and the like. This means that the surface structure is perfectly in harmony with the design.
It shields the decorative paper layer from harmful ultraviolet rays that could fade the colour. Most people like big open windows and prolonged exposure to sunlight can subject the floor to a big dose of ultraviolet rays, UV rays can create photodegradation(fading) that breaks the chemical bonds in colour
Layer 2: Decorative paper
The decorative paper is a high-quality printed design that gives the laminate plank its distinctive appearance. This is the layer that defines the actual look of your floor, its appearance can be a realistic reproduction of wood, stone, or marble in a multitude of colours and patterns, as well as such non-
traditional designs such as leaves or grass, artwork, or paint splatters.
Layer 3: A moisture-resistant glued HDF core board
The core layer of Aus JK laminate flooring is a high-density fiberboard
(HDF). There is also medium-density fiberboard (MDF). Both HDF and MDF are made from softwood fibres that are broken down, combined with a wax and a resin binder, and formed into panels using heat and pressure (Sam,2010). However, HDF offers superior stability and strength compared with MDF to produce laminate flooring; it makes a better floor. During the manufacturing process, the HDF core will be milled to absolute, micron-precise tolerances. The extreme micron-milling precision required for these locking systems panel profiles is only possible with an HDF core characteristics. It isextremely durable, stable, and highly moisture resistant.
Layer 4: A balancing layer
At the base of every Aus JK laminate flooring plank is a bottom
balancing layer that keeps the board straight. The backer seals the back of
the laminate board so its dimensional stability isn’t compromised in any
way, for example by moisture. Most of them may need an underlayment.
underlayment or padding enhances the acoustical quality of the floors when
you walk on them.
Based on the above information, we can know that Aus JK Laminate floor is a cost-effective and high-performing option for incorporating hard flooring into your home or office, but no flooring comes without important consideration, there are pros and cons for laminate flooring.
Pros:
1 Affordability
Now, customers who begin their shopping at the big boxes can easily see laminate flooring as a cost-effective option, because laminate flooring is made mostly from composite wood pressed together at high
Temperatures. So it is considerably more affordable than natural timber.
2 Click system-easy installation
Laminate flooring is typical as a type of floating floor, it is a simple lock-together system that is very easy to DIY.
3 Extreme resilience
Both uppermost layer and composite timber material of laminate floor offer fantastic scratch resistance. Especially the top coating of laminate floorboards will survive high traffic, rowdy kids and pet claws. UV resistance also means the colour of your floors is less likely to fade over time.
4 Beautiful appearance
With the technological development of laminate flooring, it is hard to distinguish the difference between real wood and laminate today. Many laminate floorboards
feature unique embossing to accurately mimic the appearance and texture of natural wood.
5 Simple maintenance
Aus JK Laminate flooring is easy to keep clean. Spills and marks can simply be wiped away with a soft microfiber cloth and it’s easy to sweep or vacuum away any dirt and dust.
Cons
1. Not moisture-proof
Being made of wood, laminate flooring is not impervious to the effects of moisture. Therefore, it’s not suitable as hard flooring for bathrooms and should be used with caution in kitchens or laundries. Light surface water for cleaning shouldn’t cause issues, but saturation must be avoided.
2. Cannot be refinished
One popular function of the natural timber flooring is that it can be sanded back and refinished to renew its appearance over the years. Laminate flooring’s top layers are designed to protect against wear and create a convincing timber illusion. These cannot be sanded down, as doing so may bare the photographic layer and destroy the resilience of the floorboards.
What rooms are best for hybrid flooring
Because they look like real timber flooring, Laminate floors can be used in virtually all indoor dry spaces, as they will always look stylish.
- Dining rooms
- Entryways
- Commercial applications
- Rooms with excessive sunlight exposure (i.e. a living room with huge windows)
- Areas with heavy foot traffic
